ABC Brickworks Market & Food Centre has stood since the 1970s, one of the first generation of purpose-built hawker centres from Singapore's post-independence drive to move street hawkers indoors — and one of the few from that era that hasn't been demolished or completely rebuilt. Even its name is disputed: some say "ABC" nods to the old Archipelago Brewery Company, others that it stands for Alexandra, Bukit Merah, and Commonwealth — the three estates it originally served. A June 2020 renovation brightened the space with new fans, lights, and tables, and today it's home to a Michelin-recognised Hokkien mee stall alongside decade-plus veterans.

Nobody agrees what "ABC" stands for — an old brewery, or the Alexandra-Bukit Merah-Commonwealth estates it served — but this 1970s survivor is still going strong.
